Frequently Asked Questions

General

Is ChronoTracer an e-discovery platform?

No. ChronoTracer works alongside your existing e-discovery tools and supercharges your ability to understand the facts of your case. E-discovery platforms manage documents as documents, while ChronoTracer manages the contents of documents. For example, in an e-discovery system, a phone bill is a single record, while in ChronoTracer, the same phone bill can generate hundreds of thousands of individual phone calls and text message events.

What types of evidence does ChronoTracer handle?

Nearly any type of evidence. ChronoTracer imports data from e-discovery productions, forensic device images, cloud accounts, native email files and other computer logs. It supports various data types, including:

  • emails in numerous formats (including .eml, .msg, .imf, .pst and .txt)
  • text messages (including iMessage, SMS, MMS, WhatsApp and Signal)
  • phone records from all major telco providers (and some minor ones)
  • voicemails and voice memos
  • video conference logs
  • social media posts
  • government records like SEC Edgar filings
  • photos and videos
  • privilege logs
  • other computer logs, and much more

How does ChronoTracer extract chronologies?

Users provide us with their evidence and we run our proprietary “evidence pipeline” over all the files. These parsers crawl over the documents to identify and extract features such as event type, dates and times, participant identifiers, titles, body text and attachments. Our system then imports a normalized version of all events into a consolidated database hosted in a secure, single-tenant environment.

How do I get back to the source document?

Users can get back to the original source document from the chronology interface with a single click. Documents are also identified with Bates numbers, where available, to make it easy to cross-reference documents in your e-discovery system or to discuss the documents with third parties.

Security & Integrations

Is ChronoTracer secure?

ChronoTracer is a secure platform that consolidates diverse datasets from different sources and in different formats into a secure, unified database. ChronoTracer is hosted on enterprise-grade infrastructure and has successfully completed a SOC 2 Type I audit. The platform uses end-to-end encryption and robust security controls to keep your data secure, private, and fully under your control.

Does ChronoTracer integrate with Relativity/Logikcull/CS Disco/Reveal etc.?

ChronoTracer does not need to integrate or connect to e-discovery platforms. It ingests and leverages the data from any e-discovery platform or other source via encrypted file share to create searchable, filterable case chronologies.
